Arsenal keen on Barcelona goalkeeper Neto

Arsenal are interested in signing Barcelona goalkeeper Neto to provide serious competition for Bernd Leno, but a string of other clubs are also keen, which could make the Brazilian too expensive for the Gunners.

Neto moved to Barcelona last summer from Valencia, but has managed just one La Liga appearance and four in total as he plays understudy to Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The former Juventus and Fiorentina keeper, who has also appeared for Brazil, is considered too good to be left on the bench and numerous teams are looking to snap him him in the next transfer window.

Arsenal are keen on the 30-year-old, but as are Chelsea, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Real Betis and AC Milan, reports the Express.

The Gunners currently have Emiliano Martinez as their second-choice keeper, behind Leno, but Neto would provide more serious competition for the gloves. However, going from back-up at Barca to second-choice elsewhere might not be the easiest sell to the Brazilian. Arsenal are also not looking to spend big in the next transfer window, and with multiple clubs vying for Neto’s signature, the asking price is likely to be driven up and put them off a move.

Mikel Arteta’s side have also been credited with an interest in France international goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, who has spent this season on loan at Real Madrid from PSG. The 27-year-old has played just eight times for Real, and Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo claim Arsenal are also considering him as competition for Leno.
